On September 18, 2026, Prof. Alexander A. Trifonov, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Director of the A. N. Nesmeyanov Institute of Organoelement Compounds, Russian Academy of Sciences, visited the College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering at Peking University for academic exchange. During his visit, Prof. Trifonov delivered an inspiring lecture entitled “New Approaches to Activation of C–C Multiple Bonds: η²-Olefin, Acetylene and κ²-Alkane Complexes of s- and f-Elements.”
Prof. Trifonov’s research focuses on organometallic and coordination chemistry of rare-earth and alkaline-earth metals, as well as their applications in homogeneous catalysis. In his lecture, he presented recent advances in the activation of C–C multiple bonds and C–H bonds by s- and f-block metal complexes, with particular emphasis on olefin, acetylene, and alkane complexes and related catalytic transformations. The lecture stimulated great interest among the faculty and students, followed by an active and in-depth discussion on the related chemistry.
After the lecture, Prof. Trifonov took a group photo with members of our group. We sincerely thank Prof. Trifonov for his visit and for sharing his exciting research with us!
